While herbalism on it’s own is a nice way to make gold in WoW, you can take it to the next level by becoming what I like to call a “supplier”. This means you get a feel for prices on herbs in the AH and then use that knowledge to gather and sell herbs to make a profit. Many players who are leveling alchemy don’t want to waste their time traveling and gathering. You can be their supplier for the herbs they need, for a price of course. Same for players looking to level up Inscription. They want to spend their time creating glyphs or Northrend cards, not gathering herbs. If you play it right, you can dominate your server certain herbs and make a good amount of gold doing it.
