Since this is the case, it’s easy to find ways to make some gold with it. While I’ve used all three masteries at one point, the most lucrative has turned out to be the Master of Transmutation. Transmuting Diamonds can be especially profitable depending on when you play and when you try to sell your wares at the AH. Another key to making gold with Alchemy is to buy the mats you need when their prices are low and then sell the finished product when the prices for those are high. Simple concept, but one that a player must always keep in mind when farming gold in World of Warcraft.

Here are a couple of the most common ones:

1 – Being impatient – some players think they can play WoW for thirty minutes and stock their account with hundreds if not thousands in gold. If this were possible, everyone would be doing it and no one would be scraping every item they can find to make more gold. While it is possible to only log in for a short period of time and make a good amount of gold, this only comes from watching the ebb and flow of the AH prices. If item X typically sells for 10 gold, but it’s selling for 30 gold when you login, then you can make an easy 20 gold by selling that item. A very basic example, but one worth considering

2 – Undercutting prices – some players (myself included) feel the only way to actually sell is to undercut the lowest price in the current AH. Unfortunately, this leads to making the bottom line smaller. A better tactic is to BUY when prices are low and then resell the same items when prices go up. Keeping a close eye on AH prices can help you make money even when everyone else is taking 40 cents on the dollar for their goods.

3 – Making a lot of gold in little time – this is more of myth, but one that can be true. I found this to be the case once I started taking the lessons of the WoW Secret Gold Guide to heart. Now, I can login for 30 minutes a day and within a week make a few thousand in gold. You do the math. Three to Four hours of being online for $2K gold. That comes out to 500-600 gold an hour on average. Not bad and I can continue to do it as needed without worrying about my WoW account.

This means you get a feel for prices on herbs in the AH and then use that knowledge to gather and sell herbs to make a profit. Many players who are leveling alchemy don’t want to waste their time traveling and gathering. You can be their supplier for the herbs they need, for a price of course. Same for players looking to level up Inscription. They want to spend their time creating glyphs or Northrend cards, not gathering herbs. If you play it right, you can dominate your server certain herbs and make a good amount of gold doing it.

There are a few different ways to make gold using skinning. First, you can skin rare mobs that drop rare items. Next, commons mobs can be skinned in hopes of getting rare furs. Finally, regular mobs that can be used for leather. While it’s nice to hit a home run and get some rare stuff via skinning, leather is easily the most consistent way to make gold. Your best bet is to have nice income flow going via leather skinning while you continue to be on the lookout for those home runs.

The trick is to know how much to charge for what you mine. For example, if you are mining Iron Ore, you can probably expect to get a little under 2g each. If you are selling it for around 1 gold each, then you are losing money. A nice thing about the WoW Secret Gold Guide is that it provides detail maps with routes to take for mining along with the average price you can expect to receive for each ore that you mine. This has helped me make a good deal of gold since I’m no longer underselling ore/bars for what they are worth.

Now before you ask who would buy a pet at the AH, keep in mind that some people don’t know where to get pets or are too lazy to visit the proper person to get it. To them, it’s worth the gold to pickup the pet instead of traveling. I’m not talking about high level pets either. You can make some gold off of pets that can be found in Elwynn Woods or Netherstorm. It’s a matter of knowing which pets to sell and how to price them. You can also make a tidy profit off of selling cross faction pets (Alliance pets to Horde players). This has to be done at a Neutral AH, but it can payoff nicely.

Frozen Orbs tend to be bought impulsively and move in high volume. Runed Orbs are a little tougher to get the hang of. Personally, I’ve undersold Runed Orbs for what I should have gotten for them, up to selling for more than 200 gold LESS than what I should have. That was before I picked up the WoW Secret Gold Guide and learned the proper way to track and take advantage of prices in the Auction House. Now, when I sell Frozen or Runed Orbs, I always make a nice profit.

Artic Fur
Eternal Fire
Frost Lotus

The important thing is track the prices over a few days or weeks for these items. Figure out when are the best times to buy and sell them to maximize your profit. This will keep you making gold while others struggle to bring in silver.

I count myself among those who tried farm off of NPCs and I can say it is very frustrating. Many gold guides suggest searching for NPCs that only spawn every few hours and then farming them to make a ton of gold. The trick is that others will also be trying to farm that NPC as well. In addition, do you really want to wander around aimlessly waiting for the NPC to spawn again.

Much like leveling, the faster you can kill, the faster you can farm gold.
